Etiquette And Casinos

Casino hotels are glamorous places, as are riverboat casinos. Whether you are in Las Vegas, Europe, or somewhere closer to home, follow these etiquette tips to ensure that you leave a lasting positive impression.

The first thing to remember is that during busy times, conflicts can arise. If you are in a casino, and want to play multiple machines at once, pay attention to what is going on around you. If other players show up looking for somewhere to play, don’t deprive them of a machine.

If you are a smoker, only smoke in designated areas, and make sure to use an ashtray, and dispose of your butts properly. Very few casinos around the world are even able to offer a smoking area because of smoking laws, so if you are playing somewhere that does allow it, don’t abuse it.

When you are playing blackjack, ask players if you can join them at the table, or if they would like you to wait until they have finished the current shuffle before you join play. This is just a courtesy, but it is something that will impress a lot of people, especially in high denomination play.

One thing many dealers prefer is for you to stack your chips carefully, with the low denomination ones at the top, and the higher denomination ones at the bottom. This makes it easy for the dealer to tell at a glance what you are betting.

Another dealer courtesy involves roulette. Don’t place bets until the dealer removes the marker from the previous bet, as the dealer would usually leave that marker in place until he has finished paying out winnings from that bet. Placing your bet too soon may lead to confusion over which chips are fresh bets, and which ones are old ones waiting to be paid.

Finally, try to resist the urge to get involved in the plays of others at the table. Unsolicited advice is almost always unwanted, and is usually not required to improve your own chances of success, so concentrating on your own game is the best way to ensure a successful night for yourself, and avoid causing offence to others.
